The Ten List of Must Try Wines by Jon Maxwell...Connoisseur

Jon Maxwell at Trio. These wines were carefully chosen by Jon as both tasty and affordable. Make a list and get to your liquor store.

1) Jean Foillard Morgon Cote du Py  (2009 or 2010 vintage)

Cru Beaujolais from France, made from Gamay. Fantastic wine and an insight
into what's to be found beyond nouveau in Beaujolais.

2) Gilbert Picq Chablis  (2008 or 2010 vintage)

A different expression of Chardonnay from the Chablis region, in the north of France.
Try this if you don't think you like Chardonnay.

3) Pierre Gonon St.-Joseph  (2008 or 2009 vintage)

Syrah from the Northern Rhone in France. Beautiful wine and can be a
palate-opening experience if you're used to heavier Shiraz from Australia.

4) Thomas Pinot Noir  (2008 or 2009 vintage)

Pinot Noir from the Dundee Hills in Oregon. Small production, but really great
wine and worth searching out.

5) Brokenwood Semillon  (2009 or 2010 vintage)

A particular expression of Semillon from the Hunter Valley in Australia.
A really interesting white that's good young and also ages for a very long time.

6) Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses  (1989 or 2005 vintage)

Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley in France. An elegant and beautiful wine,
especially the 1989!

7) Ceritas Porter-Bass Vineyard Chardonnay  (2008 or 2009 vintage)

Exceptional Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley. California ripeness with a
 light touch.

8) Hubert Lamy Saint Aubin En Remilly  (2007 or 2008 vintage)

Yet another take on Chardonnay from Burgundy in France, full of energy and grace...
And another to try if you don't think you like Chardonnay.

9) NV Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé

A non-vintage (that's what NV means) rosé Champagne and a personal favorite for
many reasons. A bottle to share with someone very special.

10) 2001 Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes

Quite possibly the most magnificent liquid that could ever pass your lips...
to share and celebrate life with those you love most! If you value food and wine
and want to see what's possible with fermented grape juice, try this at least once in
your life!

  1. I have only had the last two and I agree with your recommendations wholeheartedly. I will have to try the other eight.
